    Fritz Erich Georg Eduard von Manstein (24 November 1887 – 9 June 1973) was a German commander of the Wehrmacht. He attained the rank of field marshal. One of the most prominent German strategists of the time. Adolf Hitler chose Manstein's strategy for the invasion of France in May 1940.
